Arise and be all that you dreamed.

Today in my politics class, the question of, “Should marriage be only between a man and a woman?” came up.

While my professor expressed how he disagreed with such a sentiment, we all waited patiently for those who opposed it. And then there they were, strongly raising their hands in favor of this idea.

One kid tried to defend himself, saying that he “wasn’t anti-gay or homophobic, but that if gays were to get married, they should call it something else.”

I’m sorry, I know this is his opinion, but I can’t respect anyone who thinks like that. It would imply that gays aren’t actual people; that we are undeserving of this matrimony that people believe is held on some moral platform above supposed abominations and sinners. Some don’t realize that people get married and divorced like it’s a game. That people commit adultery. Gays are not excluded from this, because we are all human, and these things happen. And on the other end, people can be together for their entire life. People can raise loving families and live successfully. Gays should not be excluded from this either.

I just don’t see the issue with letting this be open to every citizen of this country. Marriage is supposed to be about love, not about rules and regulations.
